Throne of Glass Book Review

As 2015 barrels through, we must all take time to appreciate the great book that have been published recently. One that has caused quite a stir in the YA (that’s Young Adult for all you Muggles out there) World, is Throne of Glass, by Sarah J. Maas.
It starts off with an amazing female protagonist and her struggle against a tyrant monarch, leading his corrupt people and country into war and terror. The 18 year old leading lady is none other than Celaena Sardothien, a top assassin thrown into jail after being sought by the King’s men. Being her brave and “oh so courageous” self, she survives a year in the Kingdom’s imprisonment camp.
Her freedom is then fought for, when Prince Dorion Havilliard offers her as his Champion for a game his father had created. This game, or competition, is a series of challenges given to the said Champions to see which is best fit to be the king’s personal assassin. Calaena accepts immediately and is shipped off.
From then on, the story takes its twists and turns, consisting of magic, politics, and of course, love interests. And lets not forget Chaol Westfall.
This book is a great read, and will have you begging for more as soon as you finish it. The character development is a very strong suit in it, and Maas’ writing style allows for you to get a third person glimpse at all the leading men and women. It is the perfect introduction to her still very young series, and symbolizes the pros and cons of a monarchy rule. I would personally rate this book a 9/10. My only fault was that I wished we could have been given a glimpse at the king’s point of view.
All in all, I highly recommend this book as both a present, and a personal treat!
