Who is Harry Potter?
"TEN POINTS AWARDED TO GRYFFINDOR!!"
Can anyone guess where that's from? If you don't already know, that's a Harry Potter reference, one of the many I tend to drop (not so subtly) in casual conversation. Now, if you haven't read or seen any Harry Potter, this blog post is perfect for you!
The incredible tale of Harry Potter written by the best of all fictional novelists J. K. Rowling is about a boy, with a lightning bolt scar, earned on the day the darkest wizard of all time (Lord Voldemort/Tom Riddle Jr./He Who Must Not Be Named/You Know Who/The Dark Lord) tried to kill this little 2 year old infant. All the while, Voldemort killed his mother and father, leaving tiny little Harry to live with his annoying muggle (that's non magic folk) aunt and uncle.
Nonetheless, he discovers Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and earns the House Gyffindor (other Houses include Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin). He also meets his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Together, the "Golden Trio" embark on many adventures while trying to bring justice and be rid of the Dark Lord. Rowling creates a mystical world, with details covering everything from sports to travel to fashion. Lord Voldermort, attempting to be rid of all muggleborns (mudblood is the cruel term for it) began a movement with his following (the death eaters). Now you may be wondering what a muggleborn is! Basically, a wizard or witch that derives from a muggle family. The opposing force, The Order of the Phoenix and Dumbledore's Army are what help stop them.
Now my bias may be heavy on this topic (considering I live for Harry Potter) but this is possibly the best and most well established fictional series I have ever come across. It seems as though, as the Golden Trio ages, so does the maturity level of the books. And so do the readers. I remember beginning the series in first or second grade and as each book aged, so did its maturity. Rowling obviously knew the readers were growing up and the fans would want more.
And then there was the movie franchise! And "bloody hell" was that great! The cast, who are very in touch with their characters even after the series sadly ended, were amazing. Even the villains were fantastic! One thing I love to admit and pride myself on is that the Harry Potter fan base is a strong and unified group of individuals. We are kind, dedicated, and creative. We accept our many differences (looks, attitudes, opinions, etc.) as did the characters of the books.
A common way for I, as well as many other Potterheads to contact each other and explore the Wizarding World is by going on a website known as Pottermore. You can also get sorted into a house, meet new people, read the Daily Prophet, and learn more about characters! I highly recommend joining! All in all, Harry Potter is a large portion of my life that I love sharing with viewers. No matter what house they are in!
Hugs, Little K
P. S. If you already have been sorted, feel free to comment below what your house is! I'm a Gryffindor, hence my Gryffindor backpack and my Gryffindor dress robes.
