An Update On My Very Average Life

You may be asking me, “Kimia, why haven’t you posted in 200 million years?” (You also may not be). Well, my lovely readers (I say to my mom, the only person who probably reads this), school has consumed the tiny sliver of sanity I had regained this summer holiday. The extremely ironic bit of all of this is that this is probably my most hell-like, study prep madness weekend of the year and I’m choosing to spend that time complaining and updating you on my average life. While my best friend frolics in San Francisco and tours Berkley, I sit on my pistachio-colored futon with every book my school has ever given me and a crapton of scribbled notes scattered around me in a pool of desperation. But avoiding responsibilities and shopping for flowers are my two specialties and will probably be the headline for my college transcript. So, now it’s time for a quick update I always seem to be making. The school year started with the sound of whoopee cushion and a lot of late night ra...

12 Things To NEVER Say To A Harry Potter Fan

“You have the emotional range of a teaspoon…” Ringing any bells for you? If not, I hope you excuse my bluntness when I ask you, what are you doing here? HARRY POTTER!! Of all the fanbases in the world, I think it is safe to say that Harry Potter is considered a legend. It’s like the great great grandfather of all the other fandoms everywhere. So because I’m feeling more Potter-ish this week (and because school has begun, being yet another reminder of how I NEVER GOT TO GO TO HOGWARTS), I’ve decided to make a list. A list of 12 things to NEVER say to a Harry Potter fan. “They’re just children’s books.” Yeah, and you’re just a muggle, but it’s not like I take time out of my day to tell you that. Muggle. “I haven’t read any of the books.” Yeah, instead you probably spent all that time you could have been reading, eating the filling between oreos and then throwing them at innocent children. “Quidditch is stupid.” Or even worse “Quidditch isn’t a real sport.” Try telling me...

SUICIDE SQUAD

Image
Let us all take a moment in appreciation and awe at how amazing the Marvel and DC franchises both are (mostly for giving us stills and sneak peeks that don’t absolutely suck). Despite my fresh, blooming rage (think flowers, not fire) for the upcoming movie “Pan”, the movies destined for 2016 have me more than excited to fast forward to their release dates (except for Christmas. I’m not missing Christmas). Despite my heavy involvement and passion for the Marvel fanbase, I’ve decided to turn my attention to the DC side of the spectrum. This, obviously, is for one reason. Drum roll please...SUICIDE SQUAD. I’d like the begin with an equation. Viola Davis + Cara Delevingne + Jared Leto + Margot Robbie = a very happy Kimia. For anyone who doesn’t know about this movie or has been living under a rock, here is a short synopsis on what’s going down in this villan filled thriller. A.R.G.U.S. (this super secret government agency) creates a task force with all of the most inten...

Peter Pan Reboot

Image
*WARNING: POSSIBLE UNPOPULAR OPINION. FEEL FREE TO SPECULATE OR SEND ME A BASKET OF COOKIES. * Peter Pan. What I like to call the best thing that Disney has ever come up with. I have been waiting for a reboot in this amazing story for over 2.5 BILLION YEARS (maybe even longer). So of course when I hear about this new movie “Pan” I’m so absolutely excited that it looks like someone put two cans of Red Bull in my double shot espresso. Of course based on my ecstatic description, anyone (even if they live in Antarctica) could tell that I’m counting down the days until the trailer release, then the movie. I was originally planning on standing in line, fully dressed like Wendy Darling for 72 hours just to see the movie. After all, Hugh Jackman and Amanda Seyfried always equals party (Two words. Les Mis). Let me tell you how the world’s first tsunami of tears began. Little did I know Peter was going to be a child. Yes, I know he’s never supposed to grow up. But for all of the teena...

PSA: Fangirls Welcome!

Image
Another day, yet another book review. Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell is a contemporary novel in the point of view of a socially awkward, “fangirl” who’s obsessed with Simon Snow books (what I like to refer to as the Harry Potter books of the fictional world). Cath is beginning her first year of college, and like anybody else, is afraid. All her life, she has been best friends with her twin sister Wren, after the sudden abandonment of their mother when they were fairly young and their father’s quirky behavior masking his despair. Because of this, Cath has always stuck to dwelling in her comfort zone where no one can touch her. Wren, unlike Cath is an outgoing, spunky, extrovert with high confidence who felt the need in the past to protect Cath. These two best friends are separated when Wren decides to not be roommates with Cath, wanting independence and detaching from her sister. If she didn’t have abandonment issues before, she definitely got them then. C...

Teen Wolf: Season 5 Excitement

Image
Throughout the years, I (just like everyone else on the planet) have developed a couple of TV shows that I will stop whatever I’m doing to watch. And based on the title of this post, you could guess that one of them is Teen Wolf. Yes it has the same name as the 1985 movie “Teen Wolf”, but I can assure you it is much different. It is a mix between comedy, horror, romance, and action driven suspense. It’s the type of show that incorporates the supernatural in a way that it seems to make sense to you, with mythology, folk tales, and science. These are key supplements that  make the show more interesting than just a bunch of insanely attractive actors who aren’t really teens anymore. This show is one I used to consider in my list of “guilty pleasures”, only because it’s very different from the other shows I tend to lean towards (Gilmore Girls, Ally McBeal, etc.). I used to think that I would be considered weird if I watched a show with a name like that, when comparing to the other...

Paper Towns Review

Image
Hello everyone. It sure has been a while. And now that my summer has begun, I’ve decided I can pledge my time to improving my blog. Summer break is a synonym for “a crapload of free time that will be taken up with blogging and reading”. So, to kick off this season, I’ll be giving my book review for Paper Towns by John Green in celebration for the movie coming out on July 24th. I had actually read this book three years ago, back when the only people who knew about John were Nerdfighters (followers of his YouTube channel in collaboration with his brother cleverly named “Vlogbrothers”). I had never heard of Nerdfighters, nor was I one until last year, but I did discover the book quite early on. Paper Towns is a novel about a high school senior named Quentin Jacobsen, though his friends addressed him as “Q”, who had this prolonged crush on Margo Roth Spegielman. Margo was this wild, spontaneous mystery that Quentin had always been absorbed in. When the two were younger, they were...
