The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Stephen Chbosky, a man of sheer genius is also known as the author of my favorite stand alone fiction novel (as mentioned before). This book in particular is called "The Perks of Being a Wallflower".
When I first heard of the book, it was from a friend in my maths class. I didn't really register how fantastic this story would be until I ran to a nearby book store and dived into the story.
In short, this book is about a freshman in highschool, known as Charlie. A distraught and socially challenged boy, throughout the novel, grows to understand himself and the world more. With the help of his friends, Sam and Patrick, he is able to discover who he is and how to "participate".
This novel, a written masterpiece taking place in 1991 shows the true meaning of friendship and what it is like to be an outcast looking in your whole life. Written in the form of letters, it gives an insight on Charlie's mind and perception on the rest of the world.
The movie adaptation to this book contained some of my favorite actors such as Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Paul Rudd, and Ezra Miller which made this film even more enjoyable than I thought. It was extremely moving. It made me cry. It made me laugh.
Throughout both the film and novel, I felt as though I was being pulled into his life. When he felt sad, I felt sad. His innocence masked mine when it needed to. Chbosky clearly had a message to convey when writing this novel.
One quote I found particularly moving was "We accept the love we think we deserve" which is what Charlie's English teacher Mr. Bill Anderson (Paul Rudd) tells him. This quote and examples of it show up throughout the entire book/film, towards both the beginning and the end.
Overall, it was a book I couldn't put down and still refuse to. Every so often, I pick it up again to clear my head and drift toward with whenever I'm having a bad day. It's probably on the top of my list of "recommended books".

Hugs,
Little K.

P. S. Be sure to tell me what you thought of it in the comments below! I'd love to have a book discussion.
